Mission

The Peace Rebellion: Montessori as Movement exists to advance justice, belonging, and peace through Montessori education. We work to transform schools and communities by resourcing equity-centered initiatives, uplifting underrepresented voices, and ensuring every child and family—especially those historically excluded—can access environments where they thrive.

Rooted in Montessori’s vision of education as a pathway to peace, we protect the rights of children by supporting and strengthening the adults who guide them.

Our Founding
Story

How it began

The Peace Rebellion began as a quiet but unshakable conviction: Montessori can change the world — but only if we let it.

For over two decades, our founder, Hannah, worked alongside Montessori schools across the country. She saw it all — the deep promise of a method that nurtures creativity, self-advocacy, and a lifelong love of learning. She witnessed children thrive when given freedom with responsibility, when their dignity was honored, when their voices mattered. She saw the magic of Montessori in action — how it could grow thoughtful, compassionate, socially conscious human beings.

And yet, she also saw the gaps.

She saw who had access, and who didn’t. She saw how economic barriers and systemic inequities kept too many children on the outside looking in. She saw that while Montessori claimed peace as its foundation, its reach was still far too narrow.

It started simply — with a logo. A visual merging of two truths: that Montessori is rooted in peace, and that in a world often built on compliance and inequity, choosing peace is itself an act of courage. That image sparked conversations, which became a Substack newsletter, reminding the community that Montessori is not neutral. It is a path to justice — and it must be embraced as such.

From there, the vision grew. The wish to reach more children became a shared mission. Conversations turned into commitments. And The Peace Rebellion: Montessori as Movement was born.

We exist to question the status quo, to name inequities that persist in our schools and communities, and to center the power of education in creating real, lasting change. We are here to ensure that Montessori’s promise — independence, agency, and belonging — is not a privilege for some, but a right for all.

Because peace is not passive. It is intentional, courageous, and bold. And it is time to act.

Vision

We envision a world where peace is practiced daily, not just promised. A world where Montessori education is a right, not a privilege — and where every program is equipped to nurture identity, pursue equity, and strengthen community.

The Peace Rebellion dares to reimagine schools as sanctuaries of joy, safety, and truth. Through strategic funding, storytelling, and solidarity, we support the people, places, and projects that bring Montessori from philosophy into real-world practice — for the sake of all children, everywhere.
