Why This Matters

Montessori’s mission is to prepare children for a peaceful, equitable world. But peace cannot exist without justice — and justice cannot happen without adults who can recognize and dismantle bias.

Right now, many Montessori training programs treat anti-bias/anti-racist education as an optional add-on. This leaves a critical gap in educator preparation and fails to meet Montessori’s own vision of peace through education.

Our Call to Action

We are calling on all Montessori training programs, professional development providers, and accrediting bodies to:

1. Make Anti-Bias Training Core
   Embed anti-bias/anti-racist work into the heart of Montessori educator preparation, not as an extra.

2. Measure Impact
   Ensure educators leave training able to identify and address bias in their practice and environments.

3. Sustain Growth
   Integrate equity and justice learning into recertification and ongoing professional development.

The Prepared Adult

In Montessori, the “prepared adult” is as important as the prepared environment.
A truly prepared adult is:

• Academically Ready — understands Montessori theory and practice.

• Socially Conscious — can name and address inequity.

• Justice-Driven — ensures every child’s dignity is protected.

Without this, Montessori cannot fully deliver on its promise.
